You should note that almost any page you look up for advice on what to do in an accident suggests that you contact a lawyer if you are injured. That's good advice.

I have a few simple rules I harp on for what actions to take at the scene:

First and foremost - don't escalate the situation at all - keep your cool.

1. Call the police.
2. Get witness and driver information - do not depend on the police.
3. Seek medical attention.
4. Preserve evidence.
5. Take pictures.
