Motorcycles and Mopeds in Bike Lanes

The price of gas is driving a wedge between Chicagoans and their beloved cars. A lot of people are choosing alternative forms of transportation. Among other things, this means that we're starting to see a lot more mopeds and motorcycles on the roads.

City Traffic Committe Considers the Newly Proposed Motorist/Cyclist City Ordinance

The Sun Times is reporting on a city committee meeting regarding the proposed city ordinance that would fine motorists who turn in front of someone on a bicycle, violate the three foot passing law or open a vehicle door into the path of a cyclist. The ordinance would also increase fines for people who park in bike lanes or double-park in a marked shared lane.

Chicago Ordinance Could Help Cyclists

The Chicago Tribune has reported that Mayor Daley introduced an ordinance yesterday that would fine motorists who turn left or right in front of someone on a bicycle, violate the three-foot passing law or open a vehicle door into the path of a cyclist.

Snow Removal

It's the time of year when snow removal is an issue for everyone. It is important to remove snow from sidewalks. Clear sidewalks benefit everyone, and many people such as the elderly or those with disabilities can find it difficult if not impossible to negotiate a snow-filled sidewalk.

Riding Two Abreast

Bicycles are subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which they are ridden. If there is no local statute to the contrary, Illinois law applies. Illinois state law allows bicyclists to ride two abreast.
